submitted: hello ! i recently went on a trip to vancouver island (BC) and these flies were all over the place! they gave me a nice look at their pretty green eyes while they kept sticking their red tounge (?) into my hand. it sort of stung and left a little red mark after i got a few pics. any clue what they are ? Hi there! Thank you :) This friend, I think, looks like a horse fly, possibly in the genus Hybomitra. Not super confident on that but I couldn’t find anything else that matched well. Females, of course, need to take a blood meal to reproduce, so that explains the biting. Her antennae are much longer than you’d normally see, but I’ve seen a few others like that on iNat.

I’m afraid I need to see a better photo for an ID! All I can tell you from this is that it’s a funnel weaver. But I’m glad they have a nice home and are helping with pest control! :)

Looks like a wolf to me! In the genus Hogna, I think. I love her and hope she’s having a nice spider day :)

I dunno what a sweat wasp is! Is that a common name you use for them there? They do look a bit like sweat bees. This is an ichneumonid wasp, though, likely Pimpla marginella. :)

I don’t know if you remember how I submitted a stuffed ladybug I sewed and said I wanted to make a silverfish next (that was like a year+ ago so I wouldn’t blame you for forgetting lol), but after taking a break from sewing it to make a moth sheet and then losing interest in sewing for a bit (🤷‍♀️), I finally finished her! Meet Sylvia

And here she is next to Mr. Patricia McDougal, the first bug I sewed!

They’re friends. :^)

I have a few non-bug related sewing projects I want to do, but after those I want to see if I can make a moth or a fly! So maybe I’ll submit more! (just hopefully not a million years later)

I remember! Sylvia the silverfish is perfect and an excellent companion for Patricia. I definitely want to see if you make any more!

Is he threatening you or does he want to be picked up for a hug? You decide. Maybe a hammer-jawed jumper as far as I can tell. :)

Yuppppppppp looks like a flatid planthopper, specifically probably a citrus flatid!
